On an ultra crisp (28 degrees) under a bright sunny sky about 241 bidders showed up to bid on automobile parts, literature and memorabilia (from forty one consignees) that have been given a second chance for use by other automobilists by the PA Dutch Region of AACA. Dormant New Old Stock and used automotive parts, literature and memorabilia came from estates and enthusiasts cleaning out their “junk boxes”. This is “Where old car parts get their second chance for the first time”. Of course, the bidders had to compete for the right to do so. And they were fed well by the Ladies of the PA Dutch Region under the watchful eye of Joan Dundore and her chefs and staff who provided a variety of donated soup, hot dogs, pies, cakes, donuts, pretzels etc.
The increase of parts from last year provided more opportunities for bidders with even more rare parts and literature. It also created a bit of dilemma. So much treasure, so little time. To rectify, we helped the bidders by arranging parts in general brand categories of GM, Ford and Chrysler and Other or Miscellaneous. The parts organization by brand was intended to allow bidders interested in a particular brand to be more focused in their bidding, enhancing their bidding experience while assuring the consignees received maximum dollar for their items. We planned to run with only two auctioneers by popular request; and did so for part of the auction. Unfortunately the sheer volume of parts forced us to resort to three auctioneers for a portion of the auction.
In addition to the Auction, the PA Dutch Region AACA provided a Car Corral, managed by Charlie Sando and Pete Leiss for owners to present their old vehicles to potential buyers. A variety of classic cars were presented for all Auction attendees and AACA Museum visitors to ogle over, buy, or at least be a conduit to others who might be interested in buying a particular.
This was a good year and we trust all enjoyed the experience. Check out the photos on our Gallery section. Plan for 2010. It is typically held the last weekend in March. The date for the 25th Auction in 2011 will be established at a later date.
